Alpington and Yelverton’s Church

The parish church of St Mary’s has been at the heart of the villages of Yelverton and Alpington for over 900 years, and it is still the villages’ most visible landmark. It is open to parishioners and visitors every day for quiet reflection and prayer and the congregation would be delighted if you would like to join them for worship.

St Mary’s is also a historical treasure worth visiting to see the special heritage it contains, so special it is a Grade 1 listed building worthy of support from the Heritage Lottery Fund. The building is well worth a visit to enjoy its wonderful atmosphere and history.

Major Restoration Project

In 2016 St Mary’s was awarded a substantial grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund to carry out a much needed major restoration project. In 2014 the situation was serious, there were many parts of the building in need of urgent repair.

The project has repaired the tower, roof, parapets, and gutters, and so has helped preserve the church’s very special heritage for the community and the future.
