An invitation from the Parish Council to apply for the Community Benefit Fund:
Since 2015 we have received an annual payment from the Avenue Solar Farm. This money is put into the Community Benefit Fund and each year local groups and individuals are invited to apply for a grant towards projects or activities in Alpington and Yelverton that benefit the community as a whole or a group of residents.
As in previous years, we would like to invite applications from groups or individuals who seek funding to make a positive impact within our community.
Please see the attached poster for some rules and regulations, and how to apply.
Please have your completed applications returned to the Clerk by 30th November 2022. The results will be announced at the 9th January 2023 Council meeting.

More than 40,000 trees are available at a discount for everyone across Norfolk, thanks to the launch of a new scheme in the county.
The Jubilee Trees for Norfolk are supporting the Queen’s Green Canopy – a scheme to coincide with the celebrations to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee – where people from across the UK are invited to ‘plant a tree for the Jubilee’.
Half-price tree packs will be available at seven tree collection points including Norwich (County Hall and Broadland Country Park), Acle, Long Stratton, Watton, Fakenham and King’s Lynn). Applications opened from 30 May 2022 and the packs will be ready for collection in the planting season between December 2022-February 2023.
The Jubilee Trees for Norfolk scheme is being funded to a total of £50,000 Norfolk County Council and the Government through the Trees Outside Woodland project.
After such a baking hot and dry August, we have now seen a little rain so our gardens are not quite as parched as they were! The dry heat has accelerated the flowering season of many perennials so the Autumn clear-up may have already started in your garden.
There should still be plenty of warm September days to enjoy and hopefully we will get a lot more rain.
Lawns
When your grass has greened-up again, resume mowing and apply a general lawn feed which will boost your grass if needed. If you have dead patches or thatch in your lawn this can be scarified or raked out and you can spike the lawn with a garden fork to let more air to the roots of the grass. Regular mowing will also help collect the early Autumnal leaf fall.
Roses
Continue to dead-head as flowers fade and tie in new shoots on climbers.
Seed collecting
If you wish to, collect seeds from your summer-flowering plants, storing them in labelled paper envelopes or small paper bags.
Water features
If you have a water feature or pond, you can cover it with netting to prevent Autumnal leaves collecting and clogging the water.
Harvesting
Continue to enjoy the rewards of your hard work, pick your vegetables and late-fruiting raspberries and blackberries. Dig up any remaining potatoes, otherwise they may be destroyed by slugs.
If we have some more rain soon, the soil will be damp and warm so now is the time to start planting up your spring bulbs (except tulips, which should be planted later – in November).
Tidying up
Fallen leaves are an important organic resource, so try not to put them all in your brown bin. You can put them in black bin bags or create a separate pile next to the compost heap to make leaf mould which will be perfect for conditioning your soil next October.
We’re pleased to help promote this great opportunity from Aleksandra a professional ballet teacher who arrived in the UK a few weeks ago.
The idea here is that she’s checking who is interested, and then she’ll book the appropriate venue nearby where the most demand is. So please make contact if you or your family might be interested!

A yellow labrador has been found this morning wandering on a foot path in yelverton (not the dog in the picture above). He is about 9 years old with 3 legs. Very friendly. Does anyone know who he belongs to?
